Daisy Chain

I used to sit out on this porch and wait
For something to come and carry me away
Down that road that leads to anyplace else
But it never happened and that's just as well

I don't have many dreams to spare these days
Chances not taken, well you know what they say
If you leave you have to come back again
I'd rather hold on tight to what might have been

Chorus
So sit here with me a while
And we can have a drink
I'll tell you the few dreams I have left
And ask you what you think
But be kind when you answer
They're all that keep me sane
Life's just a series of hard trades
That make a daisy chain

I hear the cars as they pass right on by
Like a rainbow in the corner of my eye
People out looking for a pot of gold
Seeking their fortune or just a hand to hold

I've found a safe place here in my front yard
Where wild flowers grow by my broken down car
I can hide from things I don't want to see
When I wonder just what will become of me

Chorus
So sit here with me a while
And we can have a drink
I'll tell you the few dreams I have left
And ask you what you think
But be kind when you answer
They're all that keep me sane
Life's just a series of hard trades
That make a daisy chain

Bridge
Life is what it is and nothing more
I don't take names and I don't keep score
I just sit in this rocking chair and wait
In an old house by the interstate
