The Bottle or the Pill
She
bought me dinner at the corner cafe.
Wanting to catch up on who we'd become.
About all our plans we had back in the day,
And how far we had gotten from where we'd begun
She seemed so distant from the meal that we ate,
As we sat down together two old friends from the past.
I could see she was shaking as she straightened her plate,
Her knees were knocking, her heart beating fast
I could see she was hurting, she couldn't keep still,
As she leaned in to ask me "the bottle or pill?"
I only wish I could go back to that dinner somehow,
'Cause the hurt ain't forever, the livin' is now
There will be times when you feel at your worst.
And your feelings are called into question.
You will find out how often people judge first,
And decide from the first impression.
I could see she was hurting, she couldn't keep still,
As she leaned in to ask me "the bottle or pill?"
I only wish I could go back to that dinner somehow,
'Cause the hurt ain't forever, the livin' is now.
I wish for that night back, my old friend and I.
Laughing, enjoying, the time that we lost.
If I new then, I would have held her close by,
Because no sort of pain is ever worth that cost.
I could see she was hurting, she couldn't keep still,
As she leaned in to ask me "the bottle or pill?"
I only wish I could go back to that dinner somehow,
'Cause the hurt ain't forever, the livin' is now.
